Won the 2016 GP3 series and 2017 Formula 2 Championship, made his F1 debut with Sauber in 2018 due to his connections through the Ferrari Driver Academy, immediately raised Sauber from P10 to P8 in the constructors and outperformed his teammate Marcus Ericsson, subsequently promoted to the works Ferrari team for the 2019 season, became the second-youngest driver to obtain pole position at the 2019 Bahrain Grand Prix, he won the Pole Trophy for most pole positions obtained in a season in 2019 becoming the youngest driver ever to win it.
Famously was saved by the Halo in 2018 in Belgium when Fernando Alonso's car was launched over the top of him.
